Refreshing passion fruit and grapefruit aromas interplay with green notes of capsicum and fresh herbs. On the palate, citrus, blackcurrant and tropical fruit flavours fill the palate to create a wine that's gracious with a deliciously crisp, dry finish. This aromatic Sauvignon Blanc shows classic Marlborough purity, with wonderful acidity.

Marlborough's temperate long growing season is perfect for Riesling. The Riesling for Astrolabe's Spätlese/Medium Riesling is grown closest to the winemaker's house at their organically run Farm vineyard beside a grove of fruit trees including citrus, stone fruit, cider apples and a fig. They watch the fruit ripen from their kitchen window. For the Medium Riesling, the winemaker has chosen to stop the fermentation while the alcohol is low and when the sugar and acid were in perfect balance. Using only the free-run juice in the winemaking to keep the structure, clarity and brightness and to minimise the coarse roundness that comes with the skins. This is an aromatic, fruity wine where the sugar is held in tension by a crisp acidity. The lush flavours of this wine will be further enhanced by toasty, honeyed bottle development with cellaring.

An opulent, oaky, buttery and toasty styled Chardonnay created with 100% oak barrel fermentation, 100% malolactic fermentation and oak aged in a mix of French and American oak.

This little Rosé has aromas of strawberry and rock melon with spice and stone fruits. Strawberry again on entry with raspberry and apple. Soft and nicely structure with mouth-watering, tangy red fruits. Lively and balanced - dry finish.

Joe Babich favours 'a fuller, riper, softer style of Sauvignon Blanc'. It's not a jump out of the glass style, but the wines develop well. The latest releases reflect a rising input of grapes from the company's Cowslip Valley vineyard in the Waihopai Valley, which gives less herbaceous fruit characters that it's other Marlborough vineyards. This smooth wine features strong, ripe flavours of melons and limes, moderate acidity and a rounded, rich finish - great drinkability and well regarded all over the world.
