The Orange Roughy's scientific name is Hoplostethus atlanticus. Which roughly translates as, hazy, hoppy pale ale with a tropical fruit aroma, citrus flavour, and malty backbone. In the past, the roughy has been subject to unsustainable practices - completely selling out. Thanks to the hard work of our brewers, numbers are now on the rise. Careful you don't exceed your quota, though.

The 2024 Bird of the Year is now also the Bird with a Beer. Emerson's love their Hoiho there in Dunedin and they are proud to have played a part in turning its yellow eyes gold, for the second time. People's Penguin is easy drinking, with vibrant notes of stone fruit, and a biscuity malt backbone. It features local Garston Rakau hops, and Riwaka Amplifire hop oil from Clayton. Yes, it does the whole Dark Side thing - black as tar, roasty chocolate notes, but it's also chirpy and hoppy as an American Pale Ale. Turns out Phantom Lords just wanna have fun, then tear your soul out.

As a young man, Richard Emerson was a huge fan of the Dunedin Sound. Being deaf, he couldn't hear the music, but he could feel it. From the jangling guitars reverberating through the speakers, to the buzz reverberating through the gigs. This beer is a tribute to The Sound, made with NZ hops for a bold local flavour, that will reverberate around your taste buds.

If you've been mowing your super-long lawn, running super-fast, or out in the super-hot sun, you'll need to super-quench your super-thirst. This Pacific Pilsner has been dry-hopped with NZ and US hops to make it super-tasty, while it's light body and crisp finish make it super-refreshing. At just 4% ABV, and 40% lower in carbs, you can feel slightly-smug, too.

Taieri George is named after the most important Emerson of all - Richard's Dad. Not only was he a founding member of the Taieri Gorge Railway, he was also the brewery's original Chief taster. He particularly enjoyed this drop, brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg and Otago clover honey. In his memory, we release this brew on his birthday. Here's to you, George.
